The 2017 the Annual Conference of CELA/CLAEC will be held in Beijing from May 26 to May 29, 2017.The conference is co-organized by the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) and the Chinese Steering Committee of Landscape Architecture Education, Chinese Steering Committee of Master of Landscape Architecture Education, Education Committee of Chinese Society of Landscape Architecture, and is co-hosted by Tsinghua University, Beijing Forestry University and Peking University.

With issues such as global climate change, the deterioration of ecological environment and the importance of sustainable development arising on an international scale, landscape architecture, as a study of the relationship between man and the environment, will face more and more challenges. How can we better understand the diversified connotation of landscape architecture? How can we better coordinate landscape architecture and other disciplines? How can we locate the educational objectives and teaching ideas of landscape architecture? These are questions that those who work within the field of landscape architecture need to consider and answer.

With the theme of “Bridging,” this conference emphasizes the exchange of ideas within landscape architecture, across disciplines and cultures, and the sharing of knowledge and experience. Well-known landscape architects and experts in related disciplines will be invited to make reportsat the conference, and there will be forums and workshops centered on topics such as Communication and Visualization, Design Education and Pedagogy, Design Implementation, etc., for participants to discuss and exchange ideas. At the same time, the General Assembly will organize visits to historical sites and other projects completed in Beijing and surrounding areas. In addition, the conference venue was selected in Tsinghua University, Beijing Forestry University and Peking University. It is hoped that educators in the field of landscape architecture can come into closer contact with the educational environment and educational achievements of Chinese landscape architecture, and communicate face to face with the teachers and students.

This is the first time in history that there are two major annual meetings held together, and is the first time that the CELA Annual Conference Meeting will be held in China. It is our hope that a new chapter can be opened in international landscape architecture education exchange, and that this conference will give participants a unique and positive experience.
